Private Practice seasons are  medical drama created by Shonda Rhimes. She produced the show in association with Marti Noxon, Betsy Beers, Mark Gordon, Mark Tinker, Jon Cowan and Robert Rovner.  Most of the scenes are shot at Los Angeles, CA USA. Originally it is broadcast on ABC channel. Private Practice season 1 was premiered on September 26, 2007.

Private Practice seasons commence with move of Addison Forbes Montgomery, a Neonatal surgeon and Genetic medicine fellow, from Seattle to Los Angeles. She is shown trying to adjust with the new environment and colleagues. Other recurring characters include Peter Wilder, an Alternative Medicine Specialist; Naomi Bennett, an endocrinologist and fertility specialist; Sam Bennett, internal medicine specialist; Violet Turner, a psychiatrist; Cooper Freedman, a pediatrician; Charlotte King, St. Ambrose Hospital’s Chief of Staff, Director of Pacific Wellcare and Internal Medicine Specialist; and William “Dell” Parker, a receptionist and nurse.

Addison is made the new boss after Naomi reveals that they are in danger of losing the practice due to unpaid. Pacific Well Care, a new practice, gives them a good competition. Addison is turned down when she comes to know that the person she loves, cardiac surgeon Noah Barnes, is married. Addison saves his brother suffering from an aggressive brain tumor, Archer, with the professional help of her ex-husband, Derek Shepherd. Violet becomes pregnant but does not know from whom, whether Sheldon or Pete. She was dating both of them before her pregnancy.

Some of the medical issues such as switching of embryos for a young couple and two mothers-to-be who later discovered they were siblings, the sexual activity of a 12 year old, the sex re-assignment of a newborn, and abortion are most prominent among the doctors at Private Practice. The show was successful in winning awards from BMI Film & TV Awards for BMI TV Music; Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor In a Drama Series; Young Artist Awards for Best Performance in a TV Series - Guest and NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

It was also nominated by People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama; NAMIC Vision Awards for Vision Award Drama; Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series for episode “In Which We Meet Addison, a Nice Girl From Somewhere Else”; and NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series. Private Practice season 3 is scheduled to premiere on October 1, 2009.
